Overview
Chemical plants use activated carbon to purify products such as acids, glycerin, fatty acids, and other oleochemicals, and to clean recycled process liquids such as plating baths and dry-cleaning solvents.
How it works
- The chemical stream is treated with powdered carbon or passed through a carbon bed.
- Feedstock impurities, by-products, and color are adsorbed.
- The purified product continues to the next process step or to storage.
Why coconut shell
Well suited where impurities are small molecules and low ash is important.
This page describes activated carbon in general. Suitability for a specific use depends on the activated carbon grade and the system it is used in.
