Direct uses of coconut-shell charcoal

Overview

Added to soil, charcoal acts as biochar. Its porous structure holds water and nutrients, supports beneficial soil microbes, and helps loosen heavy soils. Stable biochar can also keep carbon in the soil for many years.

How it works

  1. Charcoal is crushed into small granules or powder.
  2. It is often charged by mixing with compost or fertilizer.
  3. The mixture is worked into soil or potting media.

Why coconut shell

Its stable, porous carbon structure makes a long-lasting biochar.

This page describes coconut-shell charcoal uses in general. Suitability depends on the charcoal grade and each buyer's requirements.
