Overview
Factories, print shops, paint lines, and labs release volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Activated carbon captures them before exhaust leaves the site. It is also used to keep indoor air clean in buildings, cleanrooms, hospitals, and vehicle cabins, and in respirators that protect people from hazardous gases.
How it works
- Contaminated air is drawn through a bed or panel of carbon.
- VOCs adsorb into the pores.
- Clean air is released or recirculated.
- Saturated carbon is replaced or regenerated.
Why coconut shell
A high share of micropores gives small gas molecules plenty of sites to bind to.
This page describes activated carbon in general. Suitability for a specific use depends on the activated carbon grade and the system it is used in.
