Solvent recovery

Capturing solvents from air so they can be reused.

Air and gas treatment

Overview

Printing, coating, and chemical plants use large volumes of solvents that evaporate into their exhaust air. Activated carbon captures the solvent, which is then released from the carbon, condensed, and reused, cutting both emissions and purchasing costs.

How it works

  1. Solvent-laden air passes through a carbon bed.
  2. The solvent adsorbs until the bed nears capacity.
  3. Steam or hot inert gas drives the solvent back out of the carbon.
  4. The solvent is condensed, separated, and reused while the bed returns to service.

Why coconut shell

Hardness helps the carbon hold up to repeated heating and regeneration.

This page describes activated carbon in general. Suitability for a specific use depends on the activated carbon grade and the system it is used in.
